Peggy’s Faux Wash and Go with Design Essentials Natural Products

By Sep 18, 2014 0 comment

The last time I had used design essentials was…let me clear my throat** when I was attending Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL. It was not even me who used the product it was my stylist (I’m horrible with names) in Auburn, AL. He kept my roller wrap swinging and swaying in the home of the “swift growing south”. That wind was dry! My hair would often times look like I was in sauna and I often was. That’s what it felt like in a land where the air conditioners could not beat the heat. I dared not touch my own head when I was in college. It wasn’t until after I transitioned in 2012 did I actually begin maintaining my own hair. In those two years you will not believe the amount of products that I have tried. You can’t imagine how many times I’ve tried to wash and go but this time I was able to create my own with a melody of Design Essentials Natural (DE) products. I wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. Here’e me below looking like an oily anime character. Lol the purple hair doesn’t help with the story!

Unlike your typical wash and go I did not begin on a freshly washed head of hair. As you know I am a newly purple natural and I have not yet washed my hair with shampoo. With this, I began my DE journey with an old twist out which was rooted in a method called co-washing (whereby I cleanse the hair and in essence moisturize the scalp with conditioner). I combined a mixture of the Cacao Bark Deep Conditioning Hair Treat by b.a.s.k. and the Design Essentials Natural Moisturizing Conditioner for the purpose of deep conditioning my color treated hair.

A twist out to smile about.

This wash and go is done on top of old hair thus old product. The science of creating a wash and go on tightly coiled hair is to retain length or promote elongation. By not using water you enable yourself to receive more of a curl on tightly coiled hair. Learning my natural hair was uncovering that God made me perfectly as I am. With this, I don’t wear as much makeup as I used too. Nonetheless I have a gang of it. *Crossing Legs*…!

I used various combinations of Design Essentials Natural products to create my “go to” hair styles and or challenging myself to create something new. I wanted to share the challenge of creation with you in the form of my faux wash and go on my tightly coiled densely packed hair. If you are into Curl Typing I would be predominately 4c.

The curly effect you see was created from a base of the DE Honey Natural CurlForming Custard with Honey and Camomile which provides a gel like consistency and wet base to set the curl. Custards are typically made with glycerin that give you a distinct curl pop; this product contains glycerin – the Honey Custard.

The curl was sculpted with the DE Curl Stretching Cream, structured by the DE Natural Daily Conditioner, and set with the Design Essentials Natural Almond & Avocado Detangling Leave-In Conditioner. In order to cause a curl effect you need a product that will provide weight to the hair therefore providing the foundation for house of curls we use a less moist base hence the stretching cream.

Here’s my faux wash and go pulled into a puff. I used the Design Essentials Natural Honey & Shea Edge Tammer around the edges to smooth my curls down.

Hair Tip:
Attention to detail is everything in this process. Work the product from ends to tip with a wide tooth comb. Ensure the product creates a curl by finger curling where and if needed. Start with hair in 4 big sections to save styling time. Use the Daily Lotion as the base and work completely through hair then go over the lotion with the detangled and leave-in followed by the Curl Stretching Cream. You should begin to see curls at waves at the unset of working the Daily Lotion through your hair. You will not need water during this process.
