The first annual Big Hats & Bow-Ties Affair was held June 28, 2015 from 4-7PM at the Manhattan on Broadway, Sunday, June 28, 2015. The motivation beauty and lifestyle affair featured Derby hats by Designer Tony Wilson and custom bow-tie designer Creative Studio with SteVon by SteVon Edwards, MPH. The Louisville weather was beautiful and sunny. The affair included a live natural hair show and boutique pop up market with over 20 local Louisville vendors.
The Big Hats & Bow-Ties Affair was hosted by Peggy Arthur, MBA President and Co-Founder of truly Natural Boutique featuring co-host Kandiss Sigler (aka @iikandii88). Kandi is an Instagram Fitness Mogul who has approximately 67K Instagram Followers. Guest were welcomed by Peggy and Kandi. Brunch was kicked off with prayer by Peggy Slaughter Arthur; the mother of Queen Arthur (Peggy’s mother and tNB’s co-founder). Followed by SteVon Edwards, MPH who hosted “How to Tie a Bow-Tie” with model Tony Wilson.
Hannah Drake author and poet performed a reading of her powerful poem “I Love Me”. She was followed by a round of applause as her poem touched many.
Big Hats & Bow-Ties Affair guest enjoyed a live performance from gospel recording artist Sharon RoShelle https://www.facebook.com/sharonroshell?fref=ts. Sharon RoShelle blessed us with an Acapella performance. Her melodic voice filled the air of Louisville’s newest event space our beautiful affair venue the Manhattan on Broadway https://www.facebook.com/manhattanonbroadway?fref=ts.
We hosted giveaways galore from vendors and local Louisville companies such as Heine Brother’s Coffee, Blue Mile, Lavish Hair Boutique, Brown Suga Creations, Black Crown Natural Hair Care and Skin Care, LLC, and more. Guest received swag bags with several coupons including truly Natural Boutique trulynaturalboutique.com and samples of Curly Hair Solutions, Curls and Brown Suga Creations. The swag bags also included personal size samples of SkinnyPop!
Kandi performed a complimentary fitness demo providing tips for belles and beaus using but two (2) other tools; a mat and water jugs accompanied Kandi. She worked out with her infamous gallon of water on each arm. Kandi also rehydrated after and shared the importance of water. The Big Hats & Bow-Ties Affair was closed out with the natural hair show lasting approximately one hour each stylist having 30 minutes to style one model. TaMeka Bland of Natural Alternatives began our show with a live demo of an afro blow out protectivestyle. TaMeka and her model captivated the audience with the elegant effortlessly beautiful styles.
This year’s Big Hats & Bow-Ties Affair featured Master Loctician Terrence Elliott inventor of the TS Elliott Endclose (deadlock safety for football players) and owner of TS Elliott Salon located at 1100 S. 7th Street in Louisville, KY. TS Elliott has been a hairdresser over 20 years and he has been growing his dreads (or locs) for 19 years. This veteran hairdresser has been focusing on natural hair and locs for over 14 years. TS Elliott demonstrated a live loc demo on one (1) male model and discussed and showed a styled out female model who performed color on the same morning.
